PIONEERING ARCHITECT BEDA AMULI REMEMBERED WITH A WALK THROUGH HIS LEGACY

Families, architects, students and members of the public gathered at dawn on Saturday, 11 July 2026, for a memorial walk honouring the late Beda Amuli, one of Tanzania’s pioneering architects whose work helped shape Dar es Salaam’s built identity. Organised by Amuli’s family in collaboration with the Architectural Association of Tanzania (AAT), the walk was held under the theme, “Designing Tanzania: Architecture for People, Place, and Purpose.” The journey began at the Old Boma Building along Sokoine Drive before proceeding, under police and traffic escort, to selected landmarks associated with the city’s architectural history, including the Kilimanjaro Hotel, the Institute of Finance Management, the National Cooperative Building and Kariakoo Market.
